If you are going to use a formal assessment, make sure it is not timed, the student isn’t feeling stressed or anxious, and that the results are shared transparently with the child.

Maybe it’s mastering multiplication, improving reading comprehension, or even building confidence in public speaking. The key is allowing students to set goals that straddle that fine line between challenge and overwhelm.
  • Find the Right Learning Style – Not every kid learns the same way. Some thrive with hands-on projects, while others prefer reading, videos, or discussions. The more ways a student can engage with a topic, the better they’ll understand and remember it.
  • Keep the Pace Flexible – If a student needs more time, they should get it. If they’re ready to move ahead, let them! Customized learning means learning at the right speed for them, not just following a rigid schedule.
  • Check-In and Adjust as Needed – Learning plans shouldn’t be set in stone. Regular check-ins help ensure things are working and allow us to tweak strategies based on what’s helping the student succeed.
